Most companies have their own internal version control to protect their assets. I've been running GitLab on my own server for a very long time. And when it comes to GitHub, my public profile shows about 7 commits in the last year. The private profile shows over 2800 because everything I work on is private repos. If a potential employer wants to see my work I can show them. It doesn't need to be public.
